The Flames

The Flames are a gay men’s basketball team based in Austin, Texas, USA which formed in April of 2010. The team is comprised of local players varying in age & ethnic backgrounds that have decided to come together and play competitive basketball. The Flames are sponsored by the AGBL & travel to basketball tournaments across the nation representing the community.

Some of the Flames early accolades include winning the 2010 Summer League Basketball season in the Capital City (Austin) League.  Flames were the only gay team playing in the league and finished the season with an 8-0 record.  Next up for the Flames is playing in the Fall season in the Capital City league in a higher division.

With basketball as our bond on the court, we hope to effect social change off the court, by addressing the similarities and differences that exist between the gay and straight communities.  Our hope is to break existing stereotypes and show that gay men have always participated and excelled in sports at all levels.  The Flames are a family, & dedicated to being part of the gay community.
